What the Color of Your Door Says About You

May 10, 2018

Think of your front door as a statement piece. Painting your front door not only gives your house a “lift,” it also increases curb appeal and it’s the first thing that greets your guests!  A pop of color, whether it be subdued or bold, is a sure way to help the pizza delivery guy locate your home.

I’m a big fan of yellow. I love all shades. It’s cheery and bold, but not too far out there.

Last summer we did a big overhaul of our exterior- new roof, gutters, and fresh coat of paint. What a difference! When it came to the front door my husband wanted to go with a popular red. I was not on board. I see red doors all day long and I really wanted something more along the lines of my personality. Rarely do we agree on colors, so while at Home Depot, I jokingly showed him this beautiful bright bus yellow paint expecting him to veto it immediately. I don’t know if he was calling my bluff, but he agreed and we brought the can of paint home that day.

I didn’t get to see it until it was applied, but I was in love the moment I saw it. The vibrant pop of yellow against the dark gray exterior sang to every piece of my being. I have gotten so many compliments on my door and I am happy every time I come home to it! Having a door that speaks to my cheerful nature was a fun and easy way to make an improvement to the curb appeal of my house.

If you’re thinking about selling your house or just making improvements to your home,  let’s explore what your front door color idea says about you!

Red: Inviting and bold! Your home is the life of the party always ready to entertain guests.

Black: Sleek and classic. You enjoy a dirty martini and crisp white linens.

Orange: You are the friend who always has a pot of coffee or a glass of wine ready at a minute’s notice. Your unique color choice shows you still have an element of surprise!

Green: You are one with the Earth. A gardener with a smile ready to build community with your fellow neighbors.

White: You are a safe haven. Tidy and organized so you can spend more time doing the things you love.

Pink: You are a hopeless romantic and you don’t care who knows it! Your home could be displayed in a Better Homes & Garden magazine spread while hosting your annual girl’s tea party.

Light Blue: Your house provides comfort like a well worn pair of jeans. Positivity and hope live here.

Dark Blue: Eclectic style gives you and your home a peaceful charm. Well thought out modern pieces mixed with your favorite antiques are the perfect match for your unique taste.
