Why I Chose a Career in Real Estate

I chose real estate because I needed a job that allowed me to have a flexible schedule so I could be there for my kids. A career that did not require me to miss school events, or to run around frantically for childcare when the kids were sick. Most of all, I didn’t want to miss the milestones. That’s what my life has been full of recently – big milestones resulting in big, big changes!

My daughter Kelsey, just graduated from high school. She’s brilliant and incredibly driven. She graduated with a 3.996 cumulative GPA, and will attend Western Washington University in Bellingham in the Fall. Did I mention big things were happening in my household? My first child is all grown up and about to make her way into the world. This is HUGE for me. The best part is I don’t feel regret over things missed over the years. I was able to go to all of the band concerts and award ceremonies with zero guilt.

My middle son, Ethan, is learning to drive! He turns 16 this summer and is constantly asking if I want go to somewhere so he can get practice. He’s standing just a little over 6ft, works out daily, and I’m positive my grocery bill will triple now that he’s home for the summer!

There’s one more little guy in the mix – Stuart graduated preschool! As many of you know Stuart has had mild developmental delays, SPD, and severe delayed speech. He has made incredible progress over the past months in his speech and cognitive. His graduation was bittersweet because I know it was a safe space for him and now he’s going into the big world of public Kindergarten. What a difference that will make in his little world!

This blog is a bit more personal than usual but the truth is real estate IS personal. Every time I have the opportunity to help a client purchase their dream home or sell their home to pursue a new adventure, in turn I am able to be present for my family and make long lasting memories as our kids are all growing up so fast.

I genuinely feel like to succeed in this business, you need determination, support and goals. My goals have always been I want to send my kids to college, to have the ability to do family vacations, and I want to allow my husband to retire one day. Every day that I go to work these are the carrots dangling for me to push further. I surround myself with people that support my goals and will give me a nudge if they see I am standing still. I could not have taken this leap without my husband Kyle, and his willingness to eat macaroni and cheese and Top Ramen while I was grinding it out my first few years.

I feel like this blog is a mix of saying thank you and also encouraging you to do something that makes you happy and allows you the freedom and flexibility to live your life with little regret. You have all been a huge part of my journey. Your gift of trust in me every time you refer someone my way or you give me a call when it’s time for you to make a change, means more to me and my family than you will ever know. Thank you so much for your support in my career but also in building the dreams of those closest to me.

If real estate interests you and you’ve been sitting on the sidelines waiting to jump, give me a call. I’ll be honest about this incredible roller coaster ride but I’m also ready to give you that nudge to make a leap and start living your best life.
